LIVING IN OSHAWA
There’s enough of a difference in what house you can get for your money between Oshawa and other centres in Durham Region that more and more people are tending to look to the East for opportunity. Oshawa has the advantage of a well-established city core in combination with a fair amount of development property to the north. So houses are going up and people are buying them.
Another factor is the extension of Highway 407. This is already having a noticeable impact on housing values.
It’s also worth noting that Oshawa has been reported by numerous sources to be the targeted site for a new mega-mall that will become the largest shopping centre in Canada. And this is not the only retail development on the books. People buying here should know that the community is developing and changing very quickly – all in ways that make the community more appealing.
Oshawa is in a development curve culturally too. In the winter months the Oshawa Generals attract pretty big crowds at the Tribute Centre, in the town has well-established sports leagues and facilities for the kids. New rec. centres and amenities are being included in the developments in the north part of the city, as well as new schools and parks.
Another consideration for some of my clients brings to aspects of the Oshawa offering into play. While the cost of entry for real estate investment here is comparatively low, the city itself is actually well located for getting out of town and into cottage country.
