Having lived in Pickering for 25 years myself, I feel that I can offer my clients a good overview of the community. A good number of them have come to me over the years already having made the decision to buy here. For many of them the main attraction is the easy commute to Toronto, balanced with the draw of a well-established suburban environment.

The city is divided into a number of micro-communities, some of which I would recommend more highly than others. I quite enjoy opening doors for my clients to the nicer pockets or neighbourhoods in town, and helping them to find the best opportunities as they present themselves.

Prices in Pickering can vary quite a bit, depending on the neighbourhood but on the whole they are much more affordable than comparable houses in Toronto. Comparing the two means getting more square footage, bigger lots and more value for your money when you choose Pickering.

The lifestyle here is definitely suburban, with parkland, wide lots and a great sense of space.

For shopping, Pickering’s biggest draw is the Pickering Town Centre – a major shopping mall that attracts people not just from the local community but also from Ajax and Whitby. The mall has just come out from a period of redevelopment, so there is a general feeling of newness to the place. From the food court to the movie theatres to the quality of the stores, this is a major shopping attraction that will meet any of your needs.

As well, the waterfront in Pickering is a huge attraction that draws strollers, bikers, walkers and picnickers from across the community. It’s just part of the system of parks that makes Pickering so attractive. There has been a significant investment in the city’s waterfront amenities over the past 10 years, so the overall feeling is of a well-kept, well appreciated public asset. The walking trails along the waterfront are uninterrupted as far east as Clarington, and to the west as far as the city of Toronto.
